about

Somethinksounds follow up Lokiboi’s ‘Late Reaction EP’ with EVM128’s ‘Make Me Feel’ featuring London based singer/songwriter BB. James. Blending RnB, Electriconic Soul and UK-Garage in exemplary fashion the package come inclusive of remixes from El_B, Bristol based Artifact and Palace.

‘Make Me Feel’ kicks things off with snaps and claps pinning down a subtly melancholic groove that’s lead forwards by cleverly plotted and colourful synth blobs. A persistent and dense bass pulses under swung hats and shakers as progress chugs under BB James’ arresting vocals.

‘Respect’ layers a staggered kick pattern, crystalline rim shots and up-right hats together with a luminous synth that drenches and carries the mix. Aqueous congas and choked vocal chops build with more of BB’s RnB tones as a soul-soaked melody climbs and falls.

First up on remix duties, El_B offers up organ tones, patted bongos and brass-stabs in an interpretation that feels more boisterous than the original. A hefty 3-note bass-line anchors things to the dance-floor effectively with complex and additive percussion working to keep things varied.

Ducking under a full-bodied kick in representative fashion, Artifact’s take turns the lights down slightly. A brooding and spectral glow is driven forward by robust percussion. Sharpened hats and reverberated vocals build a rueful but firm groove throughout.

Only available as a digital release, Palace’s remix throbs towards a thick and persistent DnB-leant bass-line. Delayed and panned stabs sit with bright hats and shakers in a deep-set groove that sits comfortably on a primetime dance floor.
